I think this was the first work by Dazai that I read other than his novels.
It is neither a diary nor a grueling description of his inner life.
It’s something like an objective and accurate assessment of myself at the moment, but also a determination for the future.
I think it’s that kind of ‘nootropic’.
We live in an age where everything is data and can be erased with a single click.
It may be very important to leave something of yourself behind in some form.
For example, my ‘New Year’s Day’ would be.

And, well, it’s not a bad idea to leave a little bit of everything, even receipts, like this.
